Stowmarket Repair Cafe

Who are we?

The Stowmarket Repair Café runs at Red Gables every second Sunday from 2-4pm

As part of our efforts to Re-Use, Recycle and Reduce waste, we are setting up a Repair Café at Red Gables on the second Sunday of each month, alongside the Terracycle Recycling stall.

  • Have your children’s school trousers got a hole in the knee?
  • Do you have a hole in your favourite jumper?
  • Want help finishing that knitting project?
  • Do you have a broken chair leg?
  • Found a necklace that needs re-threading?

… don’t bin it, Repair it!

The idea of Repair Cafes are to encourage people to repair items rather than throw them away, therefore reducing waste and saving you money! We have a team of local experienced repairers who will show you what they are doing while they repair your item during the session, if they can. There is no charge for this but donations are accepted to cover running costs.

We have volunteers that are skilled in repairing clothing, jewellery, general fixing and gluing furniture, toys etc. Additionally, we now also have volunteers focusing on bicycle and electrical repairs. Please check our Facebook page or contact us directly to check what repairs we are able to do in each session.

Please make sure that anything you bring is clean and not damaged beyond repair and if you can, please bring with you any zip, buttons or other items that might be needed to make the repair – although we will still try to help if you haven’t got what is needed.

If you would like to volunteer at the Repair Café, we always need people who can register and welcome visitors, make and serve teas, bake cakes, organise meetings and help with promotion.

If you would like to know more please check out our Facebook page, or to sign up as a volunteer please email stowrepaircafe@gmail.com

See you soon at the Repair Café!
