Cooking on a Budget

Who are we?

Our latest project, ‘Cooking on a Budget’, has been made possible thanks to funding from Suffolk Community Foundation. This course is designed to teach you new recipes and kitchen skills while also helping you stretch your food budget for your family. This course aims to provide valuable advice and support for families on low income, carers, anyone utilising the foodbank, struggling with mental health difficulties and/or anyone looking to learn how to cook nutritional meals whilst on a tight budget.

Our group sessions are small, friendly, and welcoming – the perfect opportunity to socialise while learning something new.

Nigel, our talented chef, will guide the group through each recipe and ingredient, offering helpful tips on how to save money when cooking meals.

Cooking on a Budget first started in September 2023, when the first set of
8-week sessions taught and fed us a variety of tasty recipes, including:

  • Sausage pasta bake

  • Risotto

  • Vegetable curry

  • Cajun chicken pasta

  • Vegetable stew and dumplings

  • Italian-style chicken and peppers

  • Sausage cassoulet

  • Turkey stir-fry

Our upcoming sessions, starting on 6th February 2024, will take place every Tuesday evening from 4:30pm to 6:00pm. We encourage you to bring children over the age of 6 to join you, although they must have adult supervision at all times.

Everything you will need for these sessions is already provided, so simply bring yourself. After each session, we like to gather around the table and enjoy the meal we’ve made together while talking about the recipe. Of course, you are more than welcome to take the meal home with you if you prefer. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Please note that due to limited availability, booking is essential.

All dishes can be adapted to suit any dietary requirements and/or allergies.
