In October half term Stowmarket Town Council held an environmental themed, family friendly event called ‘Go Green Go Wild’, to inspire and educate young people about the value of wildlife and the importance of protecting the environment. This exciting new event was free to attend and was held at the Milton House grounds and at Stowmarket Scout Centre between 10.30am-2.30pm on Tuesday 24th October 2023.
The day was jam-packed with lots of fun interactive stalls and activities for all of the family. Organisations such as Suffolk Wildlife Trust, Suffolk Owl Sanctuary, Get Suffolk Reading, Mid Suffolk District Council Food Savvy and many more attended!
We were able to say hello to the animals and hear about how they adapt to the environment, take part in the bug hunt around the grounds and helped to build a giant bug hotel. We listened to story tellers, made willow crowns and enjoyed the free boat swings and Carousel. Stowmarket Town Council also gave away 100 wildlife habitats on the day as part of their Bio 100 Day. This will include bug hotels and bird boxes!
Our Volunteers of Stowmarket project ran a refreshments cafe with cakes kindly donated by the 1936 Regal Cafe which included vegan and gluten free options. They also run their own stall, which hosted a welly swap, games and information on how to get involved in litter picking, recycling and environmental initiatives in Stowmarket.
To celebrate two years since the project was launched through a grant from Stowmarket Town Council, we will be giving out free wildflower seeds to everyone attending. As a huge success, It was estimated that 5,000 people attended the first Go Green Go Wild event – with many staying all day. We cannot wait for another event like this!
